They are located on the outskirts of Krakow. The first mention of it was in 965, and the flowering of the city came after 997, when Prince Mieszko I arrived in Krakow. He gave the lands to his son Boleslaw; during this period of time, it became one of the main residences of Polish rulers.

In 1320, was the first coronation in Poland of Prince Vladislav Loketeka in Wawel Cathedral. Reign of the last King Casimir the Great, in the second half of the 14th century, brought the prosperity and development to Krakow. At that time the city entered the circle of European culture, there was established the first Polish university. And in 1386, it became the capital of the vast Empire. In 1596, King Sigismund III Vasa moved the capital of the state in Warsaw. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Krakow was in decline because of the Swedish attacks, epidemics, fires, and lootings of Russian and Prussian troops.

In 1795, after the third partition of Poland, Krakow became a member of the Austrian Empire. In these times, it was an important center of the struggle for Polish independence.
